[Ham-Computers] Re: Temp Directory

Ok, I understand.

However Loren, I prefer to be as efficient and complete as I possibly can
be. Hence, I would rather take three seconds to create a new temp directory
then to risk not getting rid of data I may have overlooked etc.

As I said, it is as simple as it can be to create a directory with the "MD"
command.

The primarily reason that I use Professional Write Version 2.22, the last
DOS version released, is because it is so efficient, user friendly and easy
to use. I can do things with it that using a mouse to do is either lengthy
or way too complex. Why highlight a world or line when I can delete it with
a single keystroke? Quick. Efficient 100%. Easy to remember. No worry over
dragging or dropping or highlighting etc.

I can also do a number of edit operations not possible with most Windows
based word processing programs.

I wrote most of the software that I use on a daily basis Loren. My
Expense/Income program takes up 19K! I can fit the program, supporting files
and expense/income records for the past twenty years on a single 1.44 Meg
floppy diskette! With room left over!

The Compaq Prosario 233 MHZ P1 machine I had the hard drive failure on after
over 30,000 hours of use, a 6.5 Gig drive uder Windows 95B, had 2.6 GIG not
used on it! It is shocking how much space Windows wastes! DOS can do many of
the same tasks just as fast and use 80% less RAM and 90%+ HD storage area.

Granted, since I am now totally blind, I do not store many photos on my
systems. However, I do have some just the same, but not as many as most
sighted users have.

I never upgrade just because, as most of the time, it is an invitation for
problems.

But I learned about computers when every bit and byte mattered, so I trained
myself to maximize software and routines for the best results with the least
time used and space required. I wrote a bubble sort that would put one
thousand movie titles into alphabetical order in 1.7 seconds on an IBM XT
running at 4.77 MHZ! That was in 1984 and I doubt todays computers can do
any better!
