Ok the standard ribbon attachment plugs into the connector for the 
internal floppy.
Then the DB23 would be setup to hookup from the outside.
The floppy itself attaches to that DB23.
I use to have one similar to what your describing and they do work.
The setup was one of the first kind of external drives, but you could 
only use it on the system that the DB23 was setup on.
