Yep, that pretty much happens a few times a year around here, fortunately no
CP. A few dialers too, God only knows where they are trying to go.
Corrupt anti-virus program? Norton has proven to be a catastrophic
cluster-f--k since the early 90's. Aside from take up space, slow things
down and wreck computers while still letting everything through un-checked,
what's it supposed to do?
How about infected anti-virus programs? The State disposed of many cases of
McAfee in the late 90's. This was at a time when instead of multiple
licenses, many companies required you to buy a full blown copy of the
software for each computer. Seeing a good thing, I grabbed the software and
installed it on my computer. Three viruses right off the bat, McAfee unable
to fix it. Odd. Tried another copy in case the one I used first was
damaged. Same thing. Went through several boxes of software... Finally
called McAfee. They admitted to sending out many thousands of boxes of
sealed software that had been damaged in production and contained these
three viruses.
As for the co-worker, I know what he was doing with his computer and when,
even went through his system and proved to HR that he was not in the wrong
at any point, then flipped it around on IT, if they were so good at finding
the stuff, how come they didn't know how it got there. "Now, then... Why
are you going out of your way to cause problems for and harass my Intern
instead of doing your own job? Here is a copy of the employee manual with
violations commited by you highlated. HR has proven unable to enforce these
rules, so keep in mind, if these actions continue or other actions or
comments arise in the future related to this conversation, harassment and
stalking charges will be pressed against you through the District Attorneys
office. From this moment forth, all communication with XXXXX will be done
in the conference room or Lab with others present and all conversations will
be recorded. You will not have access to these recorders and you will not
be given a copy of the recordings. You can bring your own recording device,
if you wish".

Kurt posted an item on 16 or 17 June (depending upon your time zone) on the
same subject. His story seems more truth than poetry. Take a look here:
