[Ham-Computers] Problem with assigned program (default) foropening files

I finally found time to try that.  I agree that it should work.  And it does, 
once.  But if you close the file and double click it instead of right-click 
and choose preferred program, it reverts back to opening with MS Picture and 
Fax Viewer.  

Since posting the original question, I have discovered that Gateway installed 
XP Media Edition on the machine instead of the requested Professional 
Edition.  We discovered that the thing won't work properly on a LAN.  Contrary to 
what Gateway claimed Microsoft told them.  Having never run XP before, I don't 
know what TIF and JPG viewer comes with it but thought that it used IE.  Perhaps 
Picture and Fax Viewer is part of Media Edition and can't be disabled.
