[Ham-Computers] AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 - Memory hog?

    Has anyone else noticed that this new version of AVG Free takes up a 
whole lot of memory? I noticed my RTTY program slowing down a lot just 
now, so I pulled up the Task Manager, and it shows avgrsx.exe with 
36,452K of memory usage. That's more than explorer.exe and svchost.exe 
combined! Even worse, I can't end that process. Even with AVG 
terminated, that part of it remains running, and refuses to shut down.

    If this is normal for AVG, maybe I need to look into a different 
anti-virus program. What seems to be the consensus  of a good FREE 
antivirus program? ( and yes, I know this is like asking which is 
better, Ford or Chevy)
