Yes, Jay's system config will make many drool, but I want to point out something here.  One of the primary reasons why Jay's system is so "fast" at launching apps is due to the version of Windows installed - WinXP Pro 64-bit Edition.  XP Pro 64 is based on Windows Server 2003 code and has optimized multi-threading, memory management, and file I/O not found in the 32-bit edition.  You get similar application "launch" speeds  running Server 2003 with even 1 GB of RAM for small apps such as Office, but don't try it with DevStudio!  Jay's system is also probably running Xeon processors which are further optimized for fast I/O.

And, before you all run out and add 16GB to your system, realize that 32-bit editions of Windows will only recognize 4GB of memory and this includes ROM's.  So, if you have a video card with 256MB RAM and install 4GB on your motherboard, the Windows might only recognize 3.5GB RAM due to 32-bit memory management constraints (4GB mius 256MB minus BIOS ROM and reserved memory space equals about 3.5GB).  You need to have a 64-bit operating system to utilize 4GB (or more) of RAM and this may introduce other issues (such as 64-bit device driver support and compatibility issues with most 16-bit and many 32-bit apps).

I run one box with XP and a GB, and Vista on the laptop with 2GB.  It's amazing how bad a computer performs when it is starved for memory.  The XP machine is on the network as "Blondie" because it was so "absent-minded" until I upgraded its RAM.

If you'd like to drool, my desktop at work is dual CPU (both dual-core, so really 4 processors) and 16GB of RAM.  And this is running XP.  I can hit the "quick launch" buttons for Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access in rapid succession and ALL are open before I can get to opening DevStudio.  (Partly due to the way XP has cached the startups for these apps since I use them all the time)

Then again, DevStudio STILL takes 30 seconds to open (it's the reason for all the horsepower).

The point here is you've gone from a fairly light app (v.7.5) to one that is less light (v.8.0) - if you were on the edge of not having enough memory, that may have put you over the top.
