[Ham-Computers] Latest Windows update has a problem, restore point worked

Hi,
This morning my computer, running XP SP3, notified me of some security
updates. Don't recall all the numbers, but some were for SQL, Malicious
Software removal etc.

I told it to go ahead and install them (I don't have auto-install set).
After the update I could NOT access the internet with either Firefox or
I.E., and I could NOT check my mail using Outlook Express. In other words,
no Internet access. I reset my router and DSL modem, but it didn't help.

So, in frustration, I chose to "restore" to an earlier date, luckily I had a
restore point just a day old.

After that, everything worked fine.

Thinking that perhaps it was just a "fluke" and perhaps the update package
had not installed properly, when I again got the notification, I let it
install. Alas, no internet access again and I again had to go to the
restore point. . .

So now, I have turned off updates for the time being. Perhaps MS will come
out with an update that doesn't "bomb out"!
