[Ham-Computers] Blind Dude Blunders and file moving

Way back in the days of DOS and early Win, I learned my first hard
lesson. While doing some `housekeeping,' I moved files out of the root
directory. I moved them back and the computer wouldn't boot.

I learned, from a valued friend, that there were two files that you
NEVER move, and by George, I moved them. It didn't seem like a big
deal, but it was.

io.sys and msdos.sys must occupy a certain sector of the drive or the
computer won't boot. Period. If you moved them, you had to put in a
DOS floppy and run the SYS command, which would restore the files to the
boot sector. There was an equivalent Win command. You could also
restore files in NT.

Autoexec and Config are still there, but largely unused. One can take
them out for a dance and dinner, then return them with no harm.

Times have changed, DOS is dead, Win is bloated and unsafe, people are
buying Macs and using linux (which are now cousins). There are still
files required to boot the computer but they're different ones.

Glad your computer is safe, Duane.
