[Ham-Computers] Relocating a MS WinXP License?

It's legal even if it IS using the same license number. In theory, the numbers are all supposed to match, so install CD, software actually on the hard disk, certificate of authenticity and the sticker on the case stay together. If you decomm a computer (or change its OS) you can then reinstall from your CD onto another computer.... if you keep the certificate and sticker with the "new" one.
Of course, what typically happens (among the non-bootleggers) is the certificate is "lost", the CD is re-used, and the sticker either stays on the old case or gets destroyed trying to get it off.
I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble, though, until you start trying to run Windows Update on both computers at once.
