I've used Registry Mechanic for several years. I can't honestly say that it
makes any difference performance wise but I've found it to be good at cleaning
out debris left over after unstalling applications. And a couple of times it
has fixed an issue where after uninstalling something, the something's name
still appeared on the list in Add/Remove Programs. My SOP is to reboot after
uninstalling anything and then run Registry Mechanic. It almost always finds a
few things that the uninstaller missed. The only annoying thing about it is
that it also reports a lot of stuff from the recently opened list, especially
if I have been working on a TM which generally involves opening a bunch of
files with temporary or generic names that all get either changed or deleted when
I finish the job. But that's minor as long as you know what it's talking
about.
