[Ham-Computers] windows copies

It may be vendor-specific. All my computers are Dell, and I have
used various Dell XP installation disks on different Dell's with no
problem. Microsoft Word is another story. I had one Word disk only
valid for a single installation, and another for three
installations. Both had been used previously. After buying a used
laptop, I guessed and selected the wrong disk. It installed ok, but
didn't make it through the Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" validity
check. I uninstalled it using Control Panel Add-Remove Programs and
re-installed Word using the other set. It worked fine.

From another post - regarding XP Pro vs non-pro. On one of my
computers, XP Professional is listed on the start-up screen, and just
XP on the other computer. Both were Professional, as I discovered
when I used Start, right-clicked on My Computer and selected Properties.
