I tried the IE7 route, but it didn't quite work. I had to re-register a small handful of apps I run that read various files in browsers (Java, links, etc.)

By the way, I switched to IE7 awhile back and it seems to work just fine for 
my needs.  Seems better/faster than IE6, at least here.
