Update.

I have done a system restore to a point where the computer was working ok 
and the text colors were correct, but it did not cure the problem.

It appears that some program that was installed has modified the registry 
and changed the colors.

What key in the registry controls the text colot?

Where is it located?

This is a brand new machine (HP dx-2250) that is only four days old; I know 
that one solution would be to just do a complete system removal and 
re-install, but unless I have to, I would rather not because of all the work 
to re-install my programs.

So, can anyone answer the  question about the registry?
