Although it's a memory hog, you might want to look into the Yahoo Widgets engine. It allows you to add "widgets" that will display WX, messenger, stock tickers, etc. info on your desktop. Since first appearing, widgets have become very popular - so much so that Vista ships with a sidebar that has widget-like functionality. You can get download the Yahoo Widget Engine (and widgets) at:

  http://widgets.yahoo.com

I use them on a couple of my systems, but due to the overhead, I won't use them on all my systems. The ones I use are the System Monitor, a disk monitor, and a network monitor. Plus, there's a neat "nixie" clock, if you're nostalgic - just turn down the brightness!

>>> Incidentally, when I check my Yahoo mail in a browser other than theirs, the messages load way faster.

Hmmm, not aware of AT&T or Yahoo using any browsing accelerators, but it's possible. But, I haven't noticed any web-based e-mail lag as I have a DSL connection. But I can see if this is an issue if you're on dial-up....don't have any ideas here....sorry. If you're on DSL, it can't be *that* bad, can it? I have one of the slowest DSL links available at 384K interleaved (due to distance from central office) and web-based e-mail is fine (at least for me). But I normally use Outlook and download my e-mail via POP access - this I wish was faster, but with an average of 1000+ pieces of sp*m a week, it takes a while to download it all before my sp*m filter can do it's magic.
