[Ham-Computers] Backing up System Drive

< Specifically, my PC's are all set up with drive C: containing only the XP OS and
application
programs and drive E: (a non-system drive) for Folders/Files only. When drive C: goes
defective
it can be replaced in several minutes but the re-loading of the OS and applications can take
several hours.

My question is if drive C: could be totally backed up on drive E: thus allowing a quick
restore for a failed drive C.
There is ample storage available on E: but does the fact of it being a non-system disk
prevent this? >

My limited understanding of M$ systems (I do not use or study it at home) says you
can't copy a running copy of winders, (to E:) but special programs can.
So you can use "Ghost" or similar programs to make copies (on DVD-R/RWs or hard drives)
ready to be "restored" on to a new "C:" drives.

With skill you can make a custom install DVD with winders and your desired applications
on it as IT departments of big companies do.
