[Ham-Computers] Computer shutting itself down - part deux

I've opted to use the adapter for the 24-pin motherboard plug and keep
the power supply that Gateway sent me (thanks, Aaron!). Apparently,
unless I were to find one used, nobody supplies the correct power supply
any longer. The adapter and additional cooling fan will be here tomorrow.

I'm not going to change the battery on the motherboard at this time. The
motherboard is only a little over two months old, so it should be good
for some time. Also, if I were to make any other changes, it might make
it impossible to see if changing the power supply cures the problem.

Same goes for lifting the processor to see if there is any charring
underneath. Also, this problem seemed to start shortly after I added the
audio card, so I'm hoping that it was the "straw" that broke the
original power supply's back.

Thanks to all who gave me so much good advice! It was sorely needed and
is gratefully accepted! I'll post here in a few days when I have a
better idea of how the fix does.

Has not been a good week for me and electronic items. The display in my
IC-746 quit two days ago, and last night my flatbed scanned ate the
green taco. I figure the way things are going, I'll drop the PC when I
go to install the new power supply!

Tnx es 73
Dave
