IRC = Internet Relay Chat - in other words, a flavor of Instant Messenger.

That's why I asked what it was.  I've never heard of it, but there's
probably stuff in W2K that's running but that I wouldn't recognize.

I do know that the registry key that Norton said it would add something to
doesn't exist on this machine (I checked).  But I don't know whether that's
because it didn't manage to install itself and create the key entry or the
reverse (it couldn't install because the key doesn't exist).
