Search for others if does not fit your problem, but this seems to have a
half dozen issues. Use Google too and put in as much info as you have and
see if you get a hit. Then lessen the info until you get your answer. Very
few computer things are unique to one person (especially commercial
installations).

Have you tried the MS knowledgebase? Odds are you're not the only person to
have this problem.
When the update fails, it should produce an error code, which you can look
up at MS. If you don't see one, check your event viewer under System -
you'll see a red circle by it.
Unfortunately the MS site is a mess. It will frequently send you looking
for stuff that doesn't exist, or you can't find it on MS but you can on
Google.
This is what I do when I'm out of obvious options.
