Or if the new drive came with a utility disk or CD, look on it. I always
feel safer using the drive manufacturer's software to partition and format with.
When I was using all Maxtor EIDE drives, I used Maxtor's utility to set the
drives up. When I recently switched over to a bunch of WD SATA drives, I used
what WD provided. Never had any problems getting the drives up.
But if whoever made your drive didn't provide a management utility, you'll
have to as Loren says use the generic FDISK to partition it before you can
FORMAT it.
