Ken,

I've never run ME but would guess the six blinks might be being generated by 
the drive.  You might try opening the ME equivalent of My Computer and see 
what it will tell you about the drive.  All else that I can suggest is to note 
who made the drive and try to find their web site.  If the drive isn't too old, 
maybe they will show some technical info on it.
