[Ham-Computers] DVD burn issue

    Not really ham related, so I'll understand if this isn't accepted.

    I used an older DVD+ only burner to burn a great many disks, 
including videos, program archives and hard drive backups. At the time, 
they all worked fine. Now I find out that they don't seem to work on any 
other DVD drive! I tried some in the two I now have at home and the new 
one we have at work, and they all act as though the disk is blank. It 
knows a disk is inserted, but it shows absolutely noting recorded on 
them. The CDs I recorder in that same burner, however, seem to be just 
fine - only the DVDs are affected.

    Is this just a case of being thankful I didn't lose anything 
priceless, or might there be some alternative (without going to the 
expense of a data recovery company)?
