Many thanks for the information!
I recently ran across a program that makes a complete inventory of the
hardware as well as the software in the
computer. It is, <  www.belarc.com  > and it gives my DVD drive as:

     SAMSLUND CDRW/DVD SM-308B [CD-ROM drive].

Maybe with this info I will be able to find out something.
