Go into your Event Viewer and check if there are any messages about what
happened before the shutdown.

Open Device Manager and see if it's having trouble with any of the
attached devices (a question or exclamation mark will show up).

Some mfgrs put a utility partition on their pc's so you can check the
hardware out. When the computer boots, are there any options other than
getting into the BIOS? (like Press F2 to setup/boot menu/etc)

If not, dl some utilities to test your hardware. Memtest and others
like it will stress your RAM. Bad RAM can cause all sorts of weird effects.

If all else fails (and you're ok with it), open the box and reseat all
of the cards, RAM, and processor (INDIVIDUALLY) then bring it back up.

Is there any one activity that precedes the shutdown? Any specific
software? Any new hardware or software?
