[Ham-Computers] Corel Photoshop Pro XI

Group,

I'm trying to recreate the exploded view photo in the AN/ARR-41 Service
Manual. The only copy of the manual I've ever come across was done by someone with
a copy machine that hated photographs. And all attempts to find an original
have met with silence. I disassembled an R-648/ARR-41 and spread the
subassemblies out on the table around the main frame as in the original photo. And
shot it at high resolution with our D-70. I used as a background tan colored
cardboard, which works well with color photos of military radios. However, when
I convert to B&W and then to TIF it doesn't look good, to say the least.

I need to crop out the background tan color before doing the conversion
(convert it to white actually). Does anyone know whether this can be done more or
less automatically with Corel's new Photoshop Pro XI. It's currently on sale
at about 65% of list and I'm trying to decide whether to buy it or not.

If anyone wants to suggest another photo editing program, I'm open to
suggestions in that directions as well.

I'll also mention that I no longer have the R-648 as several people wanted it
and I've already shipped it to one of them. So shooting again with a white
background is not an option.
