Hello,

Microsoft knows you have an invalid copy if you try to register it but most 
of the time not if you don't.

So called "evaluation copies" will install and run fine even though illegal 
as long as you don't care if you get the updates or try to register. I am 
not for piracy but keeping even Microsoft out of your computer can sometimes 
be desirable.
