Not necessarily unless a specific exploit targets the
port you use for Bitorrent, since you can assign most
any (uncommon) port it is unlikely that an exploit
will target your machine.
I've found that Azureus is a fine Bitorrent client
with many advanced features. It is open source, very
reliable and will update itself automatically, I get
speeds of up to 125K on a cable connection. Get it
