Jim,
My wife had a Gateway 15" analog FP display. For Christmas, she got a 19"
Dell digital. The only difference, aside from the physical size, was a decrease
in the tendency for colors to appear darker as one zoomed out. Which led to
a tendency for her to choose overexposed photos from a choice of three (for
stuff she was listing to sell on eBay). I can't say for sure that this had
anything to do with analog versus digitial as two monitors are hardly a definitive
sample. But that was our experience. I have a 21.3" FP digital but its
predecessor was a Sony CRT.
On the advertised size figure, yes, with FP monitors the number quoted is
(approximately) the viewable diagonal dimension. CRT monitors were classified as
CRT TV's are/were. The figure quoted is the physical diagonal of the CRT,
some of which is hidden by the frame or bezel.
