Might I highly suggest that you switch to Firefox or some other browser that doesn't use ActiveX? ActiveX is a Microsoft-only technology and is only available in IE. Many websites check for ActiveX availability (just like checking for Flash player) and will not use ActiveX content if it's not available. By switching to a different browser, not only will you avoid the ActiveX pop-ups, you'll also avoid the malware that is often delivered via ActiveX controls.
If you decide to switch to Firefox, there is a 3rd party plug-in available that allows you to run IE in a Firefox tab, just in case the website is IE centric. Use it when you need to, avoid it when you don't.

Subject: Re: [Ham-Computers] RE: Keeps downloading flash player...
Good info, thanks.
I found out that to turn off Flash, I need to turn off the activeX settings under various zones, that prevents the downloads and flash ads!
But, now I get a window that pops up telling me active X is turned off...
No kidding!
I'm trying to find a solution through Google to completely disable the window in the computer, after all, I know I turned of active x, I don't need to be told several times, nor do I need the page to stop downloading waiting to me to click OK, maybe a registy tweak. I found one reference to editing a .dll, but I don't have the necessary software to make the .dll into readable text.
Any ideas?
Kurt
