[Ham-Computers] RE: Interference from wireless routers

I haven't run into any WiFi interference on my HF radios (TS-850's) and they have pretty sensitive front ends. However, I have heard quite a bit of hash from the cheap switching power supplies that power many SOHO routers. Check the weight of the "wall wart" that powers your router. If it's pretty lite, then it's definitely a switcher (a transformer than can handle 1 to 2 amps is pretty heavy). If you have a switcher, try using a linear supply to see if you still have RFI problems.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Interference from wireless routers

Hello all,

I am close to shutting down my wireless router and going wired. I have gotten too much interference withing the ham bands from HF to VHF. Has anyone else had this problem.

I believe a ham station shouldn't have any stray RF floating around anywhere,,,especially when doing weak signal work.

Wireless is nice but noisy and less secure.

Loren
