Gene,
Your not the only one...I'm also a novice with webpages - mostly due to a
lack of artistic creativity! I've only setup one webpage in my life (so
far) and that was back in September of 1997! That page is still up, but
it's pretty moldy.
I would highly suggest that you stay away from Front Page (or any Microsoft
editor) as it uses non-HTML standard extensions - it's highly keyed towards
Microsoft IIS servers and alot of content may not show properly if the
content is hosted on a non-Microsoft server. Same is true if you try to
view the content in Firefox/Opera/Netscape vs Internet Explorer.
There are some shareware/opensource editors available (I used Netscape's
editor back in 1997) that work fine for basic editing. Better commercial
products include Macromedia's DreamWeaver (which is almost an industry
standard), but it's a bit pricy for simple webpages.
I know that Office2K/XP/2003 have HTML capabilities, but I don't remember if
Office97 supports it. Basically, you compose the page the way you want it
to look and save the the document as an HTML document - Word generates the
HTML for you. However, I don't know if the code is W3C compliant, or if
it's based on Microsoft's extensions.
If you have Word97, create a simple 1-line document and click on the "File"
menu. See if there's an option to save as an HTML document. If so, this
might work to get you started. You can then open the HTML doc with a
standard text editor (notepad) to "tweak" the code.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Yet another question!
I have been working on building a web site and I guess my "Dumb" side is
really starting to show! With absolutely no experience in using HTML
editors, i get lost quickly. I have Front Page Express and was trying to use
it when I found that the help files leave a lot to be desired, so I went out
and bought a "DUMMIES"
book for FPE.
As it turns out, the book covers FPE 2003 and my programs is older so the
book does not match the program. So, does anyone out there have FPE 2003
that they want to sell? Or, is it possible to use MS Word 97 to create the
page(s), save them as HTML and then FTP them to my site? Or, is there a
really simple way to build a non complicated web site - with some pictures,
links and info - ? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
