Many years ago (about 15), I remember there was a company that demo'd their
CAD software at every computer show I attended (as a vendor). Back then, it
was touted as a low-cost AutoCAD alternative and the "showpiece" was a
detailed CAD wireframe of an F-15 strike fighter. Low cost was right...it
was $50 for the "Deluxe" version at the time. Let me think...
Ah, yes, TurboCAD! Try here:

I bought the $50 version back 15 years ago and it was pretty decent. Never
really used it much as I'm not in the field, but was pretty comprehensive as
far as I remember. Looks like the "Deluxe" version is now $130 and the
"Pro" version is $800 (both *MUCH* lower than AutoCAD).
There's a free 15-day trial available for download. It's 100MB, so it'll
take a while. But it might be worth it...free is free (even if for only 15
days!) <g>.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Drafting Program Needed
Group,
I'm thinking of doing some sheetmetal enclosures and possibly some
relatively
simple schematics and wiring diagrams. Aside from AutoCad (too expensive
and
don't have time for the long learning curve), is there still anything left
on
the lower end market? I used to have Generic CADD and knew how to use it
pretty well. But I know they got swallowed up by AutoCad.
