I have used Avast now for awhile, I think it's better than some of the 
other free virus scanners I've tried.
Of course I only use it on my system as a backup cause my ISP has 
postini filtering with virus scanning.
Avast with the broadband connection will update on regular intervals 
instead of waiting till you connect.
You will have some configuration changes to make to some of your 
internet related sofware.
For instances most browsers have a configuration for lan or dialup.
I really hope your using Firefox or Opera and Thunderbird for browsing 
and email instead of IE and Outlook.
