Phil,
Knowing you as well as I do, and knowing your marvelous technical skills and
addiction to a soldering instrument, what possessed you to retire from the USAF
so soon? What you were doing is right up your alley and I am sure you enjoyed
that part of it. Now the move every three years, sometimes sooner, could be
unsettling to your wife, but you do not strike me as the "homebody" type that
needs a static place to call the home QTH. Someday, yes, but not first on your
list as it is with many people, including me.
Even though I spent a lot of time on the road because of being a professional
Magician/Illusionist and had opportunies that most people only dream about, I got
thinking of home after ten days on the road! Now my Stage manager, he could live
on the road and be happy!
It is none of my business as to why you retired when you did from the USAF or why
you left the job where they made you an Engineer based on ability instead of
paper to hang. You certainly are technically oriented Phil, a natural for it.
Were you tearing down your baby toys to see how they worked? (LOL! Wouldn't
surprise me!)
I have a cousin who is the only full Professor that GMI (General Motors
Institute) evr had with only a B.S. degree. He is so brilliant that they simply
promoted him and paid him as if he had a Ph.D. It is refreshing every now and
then to learn of somebody who is judged on the basis of their abilities and
performance and not solely on their classroom time.
You are the only person that I know who actually sits around his home and hopes
that something will fail so he can fix it! (chuckle) And based on what you have
laid hands on with a soldering pencil on my behalf over the years, they probably
are bright enough to keep on working to avoid getting a "hot prod"!
