[Ham-Computers] Avoiding Malware During Reinstallation

Dear list,

It is right that when you download from trusted site there can't go anything
wrong.
But the spoofs, worms and trojan horses make me a little bit frigthend.
Thats why I install the OS as a stand alone machine.
(incl. the SP2 firewall from XP)

And the following installation is a virusscanner with at least the following
options enabled:

filescan
downloadscan/internetscan
emailscan
auto-update
auto-upgrade

When sombody is trying to harm your system, it has to come thru the firewall
and the virusscanner.
the are your first protections, offcourse you have to update the
virusfingerprints-file first to the latest.
(download it from another PC, and install them before you connect your
machine to the internet.)

Loren has spoken about a computer online for 0,5 hour.
About 6 years ago I've been experimenting with a firewall on a dial-up
connection to the internet.
35 minutes after installation, I'v got the fires port-scanner from (sorry
guys) the USA.
Now there are more that kind of persons (not only US, but everywhere) who
would harm your computer..
And why ??? I don't know.

Greetings

Marcel Pe1nms

PS.
I use Mcafee.

Marcel,

I wouldn't worry about malware in that short of time and if you was
downloading files from a good site to install protection you wouldnt have to
worry too much about viruses. If any malware filtered in there are plenty of
programs to find and eliminate it.

If one has to worry so much about the computer that 1/2 hr or so will be
dangerous then you might as well just not use computers. This is just my
opinion and you probably aren't really seriosly worried but probably a
little bit.
