"Out of the box", MS Paint only supports .BMP files. Installing any other
program that "adds" Microsoft style graphics filters will allow Paint to
also support those formats.

However, you may not be able to save in the additional format(s) until you
actually open a file of said type within paint. From that point on, you
should be able to save in that format. For example, you won't be able to
save .JPG's until you actually open a .JPG in paint.

For additional info, goto http://support.microsoft.com and search on the
following keywords (within the quotes):
  "paint graphics filters"

For specific info on adding the filters using Office, check here:

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Paint Extensions

Microsoft's Paint program as supplied with windows only works with .bmp
files. It is possible to increase Paint's capability to include .jpg and
.gif files.

Microsoft supplies the increased Paint capability as part of Microsoft's
office. However the standard installation does not supply the increased
Paint capability. Some increased capability not normally installed must be
loaded.

I would appreciate it is someone can inform me of name of the increased
capability that must be loaded.

Thanks.
