Can you scan it directly to a 150dpi JPG?  I use this for picture and text
with decent results.  At 300 dpi I get funny pattern in my images.  I used
to use a program called CompuShow version 9.04 to convert .BMPs to .JPGs and
at times the results were terrible.  I then learned to change conversion
setting to get a very high resolution JPG from a BMP.
