A couple of questions - are you using dial-up for surfing/emails - if so
what type of modem do you have? A winmodem/software modem may give
problems, but a serial port will have no difficulty at all.
SuSE Personal is a hefty piece of 'todays' linux, and uses resources to
match - you may struggle. Peanut is a much smaller installation that
allows you to use less machine power, also means that you may have more
opportunity to experience the learning curve. 8-)
Knoppix, doesn't require installation -runs straight from the CD, this
means it is slower to boot and slower to start applications running, but
will give you first hand experience of linux without compromising a
Windows system in any way.
Finally, if you can get you hands on any extra RAM it will make life a
lot easier (more important than processing power for the applications
you want to use it for).
