To all...wow. I disappear for a few days and a slew of messages fly by this
normally quiet reflector! If I get a chance, I'll throw in my two cents on
some of the subjects covered.
Duane,
I just installed the old MS Exchange Client (version 5) in a Win98 virtual
session (the Exchange Client was the "step-up" from the built-in "Windows
Inbox" in Win95). Playing around with it, here's some ideas...
Although you can't use "cut and paste" keyboard commands to move messages
from within the mail client to a drive folder, you can "drag-and-drop" the
messages from the Inbox to a drive folder or your desktop as .MSG files.
Two problems here...
1. drag and drop isn't easy for you.
2. the .MSG format keeps the message as it was originally sent, but it
isn't a human readable format.
Another option is to use the "File, Save as" menu option. If you do this
one-by-one for each message, you can save the e-mail as plain-text (.TXT),
Rich Text Format (.RTF), or .MSG. The .TXT and .MSG formats we are familiar
with. .RTF is a fairly universal standard that preserves most of the
formatting within a document or message. Most word processors will open or
import an RTF and keep the formatting. The downside with this method is
that you need to do it one by one.
A third option...if you select multiple e-mails at a time (using the <CTRL>
or <SHIFT> keys) and then select "File, Save as", then it will save all the
selected e-mails as one file. Each e-mail includes the To: and From:
headers and a dashed-line seperater for each message. The caveat is that it
saves in plain-text (.TXT) only. That may not be a problem for what you
intend to do.
Hope this helps!
