They are possible and there are filters for Linux.

Because of the secure-by-design nature of both Linux and
the Apple-Mac OS-10, both built on the Unix model, such
beasts are difficult to write and propagate.

There are occasional notices of a version of a Linux/Unix
app that has accidently opened a door but as long as
systems managers keep their server apps up to date the
problems are very rare indeed.

Why work so hard to get into a Linux/Unix/Apple box
when the Windows boxes (95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP)
all appear to be so easy to get at?
