[Ham-Computers] WIN XP HOME

This is not true. I own one legal copy of XP Home. It was installed on my
old computer until that system when into meltdown. When I built the new
computer, I reinstalled XP (same CD and key) on the new computer, and was
able to activate it immediately. The hardware hash is generated by an
algorithm in the software and authenticated by Microsoft during activation.
Microsoft is aware that we all upgrade our systems constantly and also
eventually replace our systems... many of us do so with home-built systems.
You can activate the same copy of XP on several different systems (not
legally, but the activation algorithm allows it) so long as you space the
activations 90 days apart.

To keep it legal, you have to own one copy of XP for every system you have
it installed on, but if you take XP off your existing system (say, to
install Linux), you can legally install it on another machine, and (assuming
90 days has passed since you last activated) can activate it right away.

You can also install the same copy on multiple systems and still activated
it, giving the same 90 day period between activations. Of course, this is
illegal.

Sorry Gene, direct from www.microsoft.com:

Subject Licence, XP, Product activation.

So it's anonymous, but you are still requiring information about the make
and model of my PC.
To ensure the end user's privacy, Microsoft uses a one-way mathematical
algorithm to create the hardware hash used by Product Activation to create
the Installation ID. Once created, the hash information cannot be calculated
back to its original values. Hardware information is sent through the
algorithm in the software on the PC-not at Microsoft-to create the hash. The
raw hardware information is not known or sent to Microsoft. Ensuring end
user privacy is a No. 1 design goal for Microsoft with Product Activation.

You cannot resell software you used.
the Quote sais that they are making a hardware fingerprint, so the can
regonize if the key is still on te same PC. (i wont get into the discussion
with upgrading your hardware, i will redirect you to the site from
microsoft.)

in he discloser sais als somtehing about who gets te key, who is the owner
of teh software and reselling.

Marcel:
I kindly direct you to the response that Aaron Hsu offered on this
reflector.
I did verify the information that Aaron gave me with Microsoft and they
indeed, confered with Aaron that you can reinstall the software on another
computer.
Please, unless you are sure of your answer, do not post negative responses
to the reflector.
I respect your right to your opinion and your right to say it, however,
please think before you make such a post because it could have an adverse
effect on someone's effort to sell legimate software.
