[Ham-Computers] Final DVD related question

Group,

I've used what started as Adaptec Easy CD since I think Version 3. Version 4
came along and supported newer drives and worked quite well for what I wanted
it to do. Which was format CD's and otherwise stay behind the scenes and let
me treat the CD-RW drive as just another removable media drive. Easy CD 5
(by now Roxio instead of Adaptec) turned out to be more or less required to work
with NT5 (W2K) and later drives so I upgraded but it tried to get more in the
way, what with Project Managers and music CD support and other stuff I have
no use for. 6 and then 7 were quantum leaps worse in this regard, mountains of
junk I have no use for. So during the random reboot horrors and reinstalling
the OS multiple times, I went back to 5 and beat it into submission. But I
strongly suspect 5 isn't going to run the DVD-RW drives I'm about to install.

So what else is out there that might just run the drives, format, read and
write the media like any other drive, and otherwise keeps its mouth shut?
Anything? Doesn't have to be free.
