[Ham-Computers] Win XP - Reformat-Reinstall

I'm helping a friend solve a virus problem.  He is dealing with his 
anti-virus program tech support to remove a virus, actually, a Trojan.  So 
far, without success.

If everything else fails, I guess the next step to reinstall the operating 
system (Win XP).  With my system, Win Me, I reformat and reinstall from a 
Ghost image.  In fact, this is necessary every so often to keep Me running 
ok.  However, there doesn't seem to be an easy to reformat. XP.   Is a 
reformat necessary?  If so what should he do?
