[Ham-Computers] WINDOWS XP doesn't see HD

Don,

Indeed, something strange is going on.

Can you get into DOS? If so, do this.

1. Be sure you show C:\ and not C:\windows. Doing "cd\" and "enter" will put you
there from the C: prompt.

2. Type the name of your second drive, I am going to call it "D:" for the sake
of discussion. Type: D: and press 'enter'.

3. Does it go to the drive? Can you do a: "DIR/B" press 'enter' and get a
directory of the drive? (iIt will shows files, not directories done this way.)

4. If not, it is not finding the drive and you will get the message: "Press A to
Abort etc."

5. If it does find D: and does show the files, the system is seeing the drive.

6. I have seen several instances where additional software had to be installed
on the second HD in order for the system to recognize it. This software is
generally included with the new HD on a 3.5 inch diskette or a CD. You should
have gotten it when you purchased the new drive.

There is one person I know can help you, he is Aaron Hsu. He is the best of the
best. Contact him at:

aaron.hsu at nbcuni.com

he is on the Ham-Computer list Don, but does not answer everyone due to time
constraints. Tell him I asked you to contact him.

Whatever Aaron tells you, follow it exactly! He is not perfect, but I have yet
to see him wrong either.

DBF

If you cant see it by booting with a floppy then it either has no partition
info or it isnt formatted.
