I like Netscape 4.6. Unfortunately there are more than a few websites
that do not care for it. I finally relented and started using the
latest version of Firefox. Firefox works on all websites but it is
sloooow on my machine. I use an ancient Cyrix K-6 - 233 and have no
desire to throw more money at computers for an upgrade.
What do you guys use? What could you recommend that would run at a
reasonable speed on an old machine and still meet the requirements of
the new websites?
Secondly, I have a geat deal of stored software. This is data. Manuals
and construction articles on homebrew ham equipment, mostly. It is
stored in various directories on five networked computers. My solution
to computer failure. If one craps out, I just fire up another an go
about my business until I can repair the one that failed.
That backup plan has resulted in many duplicate files on those five
computers. Some of the files are very large. It would make sense to
trim the fat and try to consolidate the material. Maybe even burn some
of the more worthy stuff onto CD and remove it entirely from the hard
drives.
So, I am looking for some public domain software that can work across an
ethernet network, locate duplicate files, verify them for length, and
also find files according to size. Actually, I would the happy to find
a program that could identify large files across multiple directories on
the hard drive of a single machine.
I am using windows 98SE on most of the computers. Two of them run Linux
and I already have the software I need to service them.
Your recommendations will be appreciated.

Frank Kamp
