I've found links to several programs that will import Pro Write documents
(as well as good old PFS:Write documents!), but none say how much formatting
is kept. I remember using PFS:Write as my first word processing program on
the PC. I still miss it and Scriptsit (sp)? for the TRS-80.
Anyways, as mentioned earlier, WordPort will convert between formats, but at
a cost. Looks like OpenOffice (the open-source "base code" to Sun's
StarOffice) will import all of the PFS and Pro Write formats. Again, don't
know how much formatting it will keep, but OpenOffice is GPL'd and free.
Another app I found that will import Pro Write docs is "Ability" Office.
Looks like this was designed as a light-weight office suite alternative to
the feature laden MS Office. The "Ability" standard suite is $60 and just
the word processor alone is $25. Again, don't know how much formatting it
will keep from the original document, but it sounds like a nice little
inexpensive app and it has received some good reviews.
And, while I was searching, I found this neat website by a gentleman named
Dan. A section of this site is called "20th Century Abandonware". Here
there are descriptions and screenshots of apps long gone and forgotten. He
has apps dating back to 1981 from multiple platforms - DOS, OS/2, Mac, GEM,
GEOS, Windows, and a few others. A neat site to visit and reminice. It's
here:
http://home.pmt.org/~drose
and click on the "Abandonware" link. He also as a link to a collection of
older hardware dating back to 1983.
