are you talking about the FDISK and FORMAT process?

If you are (and this is largely non-recoverable without tools), you can
go back and re-FDISK, then format, making sure to tell it that it's a
large HD.  Just do it over again, first removing the partition you
created, then creating a proper one.

Again, this assumes you already did FDISK once.  This will just write
over it.  Anything on the HD gets wiped during this process.
