What is involved in installing the Apple Ipod to a Windows XP Home Edition

What software is needed to download music from the Internet sites that offer it?
		
	
The gentleman wishing to do this is 78 and knoes almost nothing about a
computer. Whatever is done, it needs to be as simple as possible for his sake.
