[Ham-Computers] Question about email and DSL

True - my point was that with dial-up (especially with a big provider,
like SBC or AOL) you'll get a DIFFERENT IP every time you connect (most
times), whereas with an "always on" connection (DSL or cable) you may
have the same IP for years at a stretch (or guaranteed if you pay the
extra $$ for a "static IP").

Not all hacks "need" a physical IP address, but of those that do, many
can be frustrated (if not thwarted) by changing IPs regularly. Dial up
does this by definition if your provider uses DHCP (>90% of them), but
always on's never do.

The same is true of Compuserve and (I presume) of AOL (full headers). I

"think" that if you use a cable or DSL modem and sit behind a router
what shows up
when you click the Details button is either the router or the modem. At

least when I send myself an email from my RoadRunner account to my
Compuserve
account, the local machine's IP is not in the header.
