Duane,
I have a similar problem - also with Kodak premium paper. My Epson 880
prints great on Epson or Konica paper; but on the Kodak paper the prints are
heavy on the purple/magenta side. Using the Epson control panel, I was able
to change a few color control settings to adjust for the color "shift", but
the results are still not as good as with the other papers. The actual
prints look great...just with a color shift.
I spoke with a Kodak digital imaging manager at CES this past January about
it. He was very interested in the color shift problem I ran into and wanted
me to send him some prints on all three types of paper. Unfortunately, I
misplaced his card in all the other CES "stuff" and wasn't able to get him
the samples. I'll have to look harder now knowing that I may not be the
only person affected by the purple color shift.
Different papers absorb ink at different rates, so the printer adjusts the
amount of ink depending on the paper type selected. If the HP printer
control panel has the option, try changing the paper "type". When I changed
the type from "glossy" to "matte", the resulting print had better color
balance. Also try using some HP glossy paper. The various printer
companies calibrate their ink carts to work with their papers (and vice
versa) for best color reproduction. And, also try a new HP color cart, just
to be sure.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Broken P-1000 Printer?
Hi All,
I have a HP P-1000c color printer. Now some of you know that I am totally
blind,
I mention this only because some do not know and it has great relevance
here.
Tonight a visiting Ham buddy from out of state was looking at some of the
original color photos of some custom cars I built in the sixties. (FYI: I
was
drag racing prior to being blinded on the eve of my eighteenth birthday.
After
that I switched to building custom street machines for a hobby.) I decided
to
print him a copy of one of the photos that I had previously scanned and
saved.
He said that there was a sort of purple color showing on the hood and some
of
the interior. This color does not exist in the photo or the scan.
I got out a different photo of a different car and handed that to him to
check.
This was printed three weeks ago. It had some pink coloration's showing in
spots, but there is no pink on this car! The picture is fine otherwise, no
distortion or anything. Thepaper is high quality Kodak.
The printer does not get a lot of use, sometimes it does sit idle for
several
weeks.
Any ideas as to what is going on with this printer? Maybe a bad color
cartridge?
There is no low ink warning, by the way.
Thank you for your guidance.
