Brian,

Here is a copy of my config.sys file:

DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
BUFFERS=20
FILES=60
DEVICE=nec_ide.sys /D:mscd001
device=ansi.sys

Here is a copy of my autoexec.bat file:

@echo off
mscdex.exe /d:mscd001 /l:d

You may not need all the lines.

I also have all the programs (I think) listed above. This is all from my
ancient Windows 95 initial boot disk. It transfers these programs from the
floppy to the hard drive. Then these programs are used to boot up the
Windows 95 CD and start its installation.

None of these programs are large, all less than 60K. So it is possible to
email them to you directly.

I suspect you may not need the "HIMEM.SYS" and the "ansi.sys". My memory is
weak, but I believe:

HIMEM.SYS allows programs (and possibly DOS) to utilize memory above the
640K limit.

ansi.sys gives the computer the capability respond to more command line
operations.

For instance using ansi.sys, I had the following command line prompt defined
to personalize my computer.

echo on
prompt $e[0;1;44;31m$P$G$e[33m$ What now Rolly? $e[37m$e[K

I forget what all those symbols mean now. I believe some were color, and
some specified the drive letter be shown with a > following it. That is too
far back. Anyway you could edit that line changing it as you desire.

I think these items will solve your problems. Comments from all are welcome
and desired. It would help refresh my memory.

         Rolly
